Our Literacy Project

According to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), based on the current trend in positive efforts to educate the African Children, the following FACTS are noted:

  • 23 million African children out of school by 2015

  • Just over one adult in three cannot read or write.

  • Africa has some of the world’s deepest inequalities based on factors such as gender, language and location

  • And even when free education or supplemented education is available, most children will still not make it to the classroom due to Lack of food, clothing, and school supplies.

  • About 38% of the adult population in sub-Saharan Africa, or 153 million adults, cannot Read or write. Over 60% of these are women.
  • Aid levels to basic education in sub-Saharan Africa have dropped – from US$1.72 billion in 2007 to $1.65 billion in 2008. Taking into account rising enrolment in primary schools, spending per pupil has dropped by 7%.

What are we doing to help?
We are working with various local school Chancellors and Trustees to ensure that the most improvised schools get helped first. We are collecting new and used items - books, computers, laptops, copiers, printers, calculators, clothing, shoes, toys, and even used 4x4 vehicles to help support equal educational opportunities for the children in Africa. The items you consider as garbage may be the best gift an African kid will ever receive.
